WSOP, Live play starts back up, online grind and the BIG Heads Up match!

Man, hate starting off a blog with, “Sorry I have not posted in a while!”. But you know, I am! Lots to cover so #letsgo!

WSOP

I did finally play in a WSOP event when I vacationed in NJ this summer. It was awesome (I guess you could say that). Check it off the list! I played so bad! Fired two bullets! The play was aggressive to say the least! I am sure it was nerves, yes, nerves from playing in such a big event. It happens. Bust as I always say, you learn from it, you don’t forget and move on!  The last hand that sent me to the rail the final time was my pair of Jacks vs a pair of Nines, pre flop all in. A nine hits on the flop and “Thanks for playing!” Of course, I captured the moment with some pics! In order left to right: Entry, seat taken, first hand, el busto and last hand of the event for me! I am sure there will be other events next year and I am looking forward to playing!

Live Play!

Our eight-month league starts back up at my friends Chris Best home this month.  I have been looking forward to it since the last session ended! I have played so much online that live play will be an adjustment for sure! Something new this year is the trophy for first and for last! Can’t wait for Eddie Bosse to win that last place award! Hopefully when he does, next year moving forward it can be called the “Eddie Bosse last Place Trophy”!!!

Online Grind

I try to play when I can online. Usually after working is done (which never is really done), I get into primarily tournaments. A few cash games every once in a while, but I am defiantly a tournament grinder for sure. I played in a $33 buy-in recently and I must say, it was a win from the start for me!  As you all know, I play on ACR. They have a feature where you can spin a slot type game for different amounts, you chose. .25, .50. $1, $5, $10. I always spin two, three or four times to try to get in cheaper if you get three of the same cards. It happens a lot. I did three spins, nothing, but as I did my fourth, the reels were spinning a longer time before hitting.  That’s when you know you are going to hit, and I did! So, I got in for $4! I felt like a winner already!! I was playing the monthly home game we play on PokerStars and the $25K tourney on ACR at the same time. No big deal, I do that all the time. I ended up chopping on the home game with a great poker player, Gene (who happens to own the McDonald’s restaurants I work for him) and we did a 60/40 split. Gene 60, me 40.  He had me 2:1 on the chip counts. When Gene offered it up, I really thought for a few minutes if I wanted to or not.  Everyone that knows me, knows I hate doing a chop! But one guy put it to me like this, it’s not life changing money so what the harm? Great perspective! But I still hate a chop! But being Gene asking, I agreed! Still money in the bank! Then the focus went to the ACR game. To find out what happened, you can view the short video on YouTube here:

The Big Heads up match

There has been so much back and forth over the years with Doug Polk and Daniel Negreanu. I believe it is Doug more than Daniel by a long shot. If you have not been following the feud over the four or five years, it is very entertaining to the average poker guy or girl. Doug is known for being, at one time, one of the best Heads Up poker players in the world. 2013-2016 was by far some of his best years. It was to the point where no one would play him heads up because he was that good.  He won the One Drop which is a $111,111 buy-in. He retired from poker, focused on his Upswing poker training platform and recently, stopped making videos for YouTube, which was a full-time job and one of the most successful channels in the poker world on YouTube and in my opinion, is still trying to figure out who he is. The company is still in business and in good hands but Doug is not doing videos for YouTube about it.  However, the hate he has for Daniel never went away.

The HU match is set. November 1. They will play 25,000 hands of HU poker. It will be played on WSOP client (worst out dated platform in my opinion) and recorded on PokerGo’s studios for viewing. Two-four-hour sessions but more if both agree each hour. There is so much more but if you are interested in the whole story, check out pokernews.com in the link below for the latest details or listen to DAT podcast that recently hit. Daniel goes into ALL the details (including pre-flop charts – WHAT?!?) Oh, and read the recent tweets (Polk calls Daniel a little bitch). It is for a million dollars so it is a big deal!
