COVID-19, Online Poker and SCOOP

Covid-19 has changed everything. I mean everything. Who knows how much time will be needed to get life back to anything close to what it was. Face mask, gloves, handwashing and sanitizer.  Oh, and don’t forget toilet paper. Yeah, that was a big mess for a minute. Toilet paper. The data and direction of what you can do, what you should do, changes by the minute. It is crazy, and in my opinion, a bit on the over protective side.  A lot of false sense of safety if you ask me. The market on plexiglass has shot through the roof! Shields everywhere. Every business. I wonder if they will ever come down.  I hope so!

From a poker perspective, the online sites are booming! In the land of the free, the good old USA, we are not allowed to play poker online.  Yes, a few states can but it is crazy in this day and age that you cannot play on Poker Stars or Party Poker or even GG Poker. Thank goodness for America’s Card Room. ACR. I know for the long-time online payers, when you hear ACR, the first thing you think of is a site that has BOTs on it. I agree with that – from the past.  However, CEO Phil Nagy has done some work, a lot of work, to get them off the site.  They have returned money to players involved with bots and have removed them from the site.  Changed graphic interface so the bots no longer work and they are doing everything in their power to keep them off the site.

The fields are big and the number of players that are new to site is huge! How do you know? Just look at some screen names: Covid20, WhoDey2020, ExLivePlayer and on and on. And the fields really are soft! People giving chips away! I play 99.9% tournaments. I really cannot speak of the cash game front but I would expect that it is exactly the same. So stop doing nothing and get online! ACR is waiting for you!

One last comment about online.  Poker Stars is on the back end of their SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker). They just played their main event of the series. A $10k buy in with over one million to first place. As you may know, I stream on Twitch and I also watch players on Twitch. Two of the biggest streamers on the platform, Lex Vedhuis and Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg had very deep runs. I promise you as I watched them, it was the most exciting, nail-biting poker I have ever watched! The stream of Lex is always the highest in the field of Twitch streamers.  But on this day, day three of the main event, with only 40 players left and $40k locked up, Lex set the record for most viewers at 58,799! Number one on that day on the site worldwide! Spraggy was knocked out by Lex to take home $40,955 in 30th place.  Lex went out 15th to take home $62,500. Lex went on to say after, “It was a super hard struggle. I was card dead, but in the end, I’m super happy. I finished 14 spots away from $1M which always hurts, but the overwhelming thing to take away from today is the Twitch record and the support I received from everybody, the subs, good friends, family, everybody was sweating it so hard. All the messages I got after, it’s an insanely nice bonus.” It really was amazing to watch!
