Man, what a year for the home game. I will tell you the last session there were some added fireworks! I like keeping the blogs kind of short reads so I am thinking that this one may be spread out over maybe three!
Where to start. I guess I will start with the most talked about hand of the night. The way the league works is that when you go out, you get that position in points. So, if there are 15 people left, you go out, you get 15 points. The lower the number the better. The player with the lowest points wins over the 8-month league. Three positions get paid on the season. First with $7k, second with $2k and third with $1k. The leader going into the last month had a gap of 10 between him and the next closest player. We will refer to him as the Villain. Villain has this season pretty much locked up. The remaining two players that have a fight for second place money, one of them has a very slim chance of winning against the Villain, we will call him Number 2. Oh, I have to tell you about the other person in the hand I am about to talk about, I will call him, Player X. Quick history on Player X. He is a wild man!! Plays every hand! Any two cards! Fearless! Big Better! Big Bluffer!! He could have the nuts or 72 off!! With all that said, here we go!
Player X raises. The Villain has played two hands all night. As expected, he folds. It folds around the table and Number 2 calls. The flop come QJx. Player X checks and Number 2 pushes all in for $6k. Probably $2k in the pot. Player X tanks! It is clear he has connected in some way with the board. He has roughly $30k in chips. Instant call, right??? The small talk starts between the two and Number 2 tells him as of the flop that Player X is beat. I have never seen Player X take so much time to make a decision. Ok, this has gone on long enough. I call clock! I want Player X to fold so after I call clock, it is his deal next so I pick up all the mucked cards and throw them his way. Maybe sending a mental message that your beat, fold the hand, lets move on! If Player X calls and he wins the hand, it is 100% done and the Villain locks up first with no chance of losing. What does Player X do? He FOLDS!!! Number 2 shows his hand, AQ. Top pair, top kicker. Player X shows his hand, K10. Has had an open-ended straight draw with one of his outs in Number 2’s hand. After the flop, it is basically a flip still. Player X has a 35% chance of hitting his hand! He has all the Kings, three Aces and all the 9s. We were now on break so in curious fashion, which people just have to know, they run out the cards. On the turn, a 9. Player X says, “I would have won!”. So, in what I like to say, “In the fantasy league”, Player X would have won and Number 2 would have had a name change to Number 3 and the Villain would have been playing more hands, probably in an effort to get knocked out and go home!
Number 2 and Player X are great guys! Number 2 is Chris B and Player X is Doug S! More to come on The Villain!
