What I really like about the live play poker league is the social aspect of it as much as playing poker. Some of the guys I only get to see monthly. Sure, there are text messages, Snaps and Facebook, tweets and Instagram. But seeing the guys, having some drinks and dinner before going to play is always fun and awesome!
So, this happened on the last night of the league. We are all talking, cards are flying around the table and I look down at 10/8 off and muck my cards. As Casey was next to act, Player X (you remember him from the last blog, right?), Doug, says, “Hey Bucky, you’re the big blind!”. So, Casey mucks as he was saying that. I reached for my cards, Casey pulls his two cards back and says to the table, “These are my two cards.”. I look at mine and they were the two I had. Play continues and there were no objections. It’s a friendly game anyway, right? The betting goes around the table and a very good player, Jeremy, raises. The dealer folds, the small blind folds. Now he knows I have a hand that I would not play from first to act, but in the BB, I play this hand, so I call. The flop comes 3-7-10. I hit my ten. I don’t think that flop helped him so I bet, he raises and I push all in. He calls! Oops! What did I just step in??? He turns over what we call, “The Schmidt”. That’s K-10 in our league, Joel Schmidt’s favorite hand. I turn over my 10-8. The turn did not change a thing and then the river. That glorious river. An 8! My two pair win and Jeremy leaves for the night. After he leaves, who else but the Villain starts the banter. “I think that hand needs to be under protest!” No one else really said anything and that was the Villain just being the Villain. I went out third that last night, splitting my play for the 8-month season. Four strong finishes and four bad ones. I cannot wait for October to start the 2021 session! Cards were being played and we just moved on. Had Jeremy or anyone else won that hand, it was no big deal but because I did, that was Villain’s issue! It really is a friendly game so play on Villain, play on.
