Yesterday started the NAPT in Vegas. I follow a lot of the professional players on Twitter so the updates were coming fast and furious. Every time I would read one, I was wishing I was there watching or better yet, playing. In typical Phil Hellmuth fashion, he was at his table five hours after the tournament started. After a very short period, maybe thirty minutes, he was out. His play has been so bad lately. Everyone is beating him.
I watched the WPT final table today on Fox Sports with Kevin Schaffel and Prahlad Friedman from August 2008 while reading Eric Lindgren’s book, Making the Final Table. After that, I wanted to play some poker!
I got online on Full Tilt. I have been playing that site recently because my friend Joel has been playing and that makes it fun. I got into a 45 man tournament. I had one hand that I got lucky on. It was early in the tourney and I really sucked one out to get to average stack. After that, I played some of the best poker I have played in a long time. I knocked out many players and my table image was strong. That allowed me to steal pots pretty much anytime I wanted to. When someone thought I was stealing, they called me and ended up going out.
I made it to the final table and was the chip leader until there were three left. The top six finishes paid out so I knocked out the seventh guy and the table was in the money. When it got down to three left, I lost a hand on the river to a flush. I had Ad 5d. The other guy had 5h 6h. He went all in, I called and after the flop with one heart, runner runner heart! That did not happen once but twice losing to the flush! The second one happened on fourth street. That’s what finally brought me down and out in third but it was fun to play so well.
You can see pictures from the tournament on the online picture of the day.
Well, I’m done with poker for the day. Time for family time and Sunday night dinner!
