Month eight of poker league and I brought home another win for the second time in the last three months. I didn’t give an update from last months league play so I guess I’ll tell you the bad with this blog of good. The bad last month: I went out in 14th. That happens and that’s poker. I cannot tell you how many times I was low stack this month. When the final table of ten was put into place, I had roughly 1,300 in tournament chips. First hand I go all in and double up. About six hands later, I go all in with 44 and then hit a 4 on the flop to triple up my stack. I kept building my chip stack and was setting around 24k when a good friend pushed all in with about 7k. I called and that put the total pot at around 18k. He flips over A7o, I flip over A8s. The flop comes 6 -7 -2. He leads with top pair, top kicker. The turn brings a 8! I now lead with top pair, top kicker. By the way, two of the four cards out were clubs and my A8 were clubs as well so I am looking really good, right? Uhhh, not so right! Fifth street brings a 7! Unreal! So I doubled Gene up and here we go again. Play continued and ended up I was heads up against a very tight player. He had about 3k more chips than me and wanted to cut a deal on the money. My thoughts were we had to play out regardless for the points for league ranking so we might as well play it out for the money. The final hand was my AKs vs QQ. The K hit on the flop and held up to beat the Queens and the first place position went to me! Yes! We have four months to go and I am in second place by two points. Looking forward to a fun and profitable finish!
As for “The Bet”, Joel played really well this month and went out in 6th place so I picked up five more points over him. He has to win out and I have to go out first for it to be close! Not exactly the Durr challenge but still fun to watch!
